‘Korea Sommelier of the Year’ was held on 26th of April at JW Marriott Dondaemun Square Seoul. Wook Tae Han sommelier from Korean restaurant, Kwonsooksoo took first place in the competition. In a final round the each contestant has to complete a series of tasks for forty-five minutes in order to find the best sommelier who has the knowledge and the outstanding technical skills. The first challenge was to remember a judge’s drink order and service the exact cocktail. The second assignment was to solve theoretical problems and the third one was wine decanting and serving. A blind tasting was the last test. After four consecutive challenges, the finale was the magnum pour. The finalists had to pour the same amount of champagne into 10 glasses. The winner of the competition will participate in Duval-Leroy Award winery tour and Riedel Special Award tour. Also he will be invited to be the member of the jury at Wines of Portugal Challenge in 2018. ‘Korea Sommelier of the Year’ competition was held for the third time and it is founded to advance Korean wine culture and foster awareness among the Korean public about wine and sommeliers.
